Buttons - Short Story by Dipayan Chatterjee

BUTTONS by Dipayan Chatterjee My mother is obsessed with buttons. Wooden buttons. Metal buttons. Plastic buttons. Old buttons. New buttons. Rusted buttons. Broken buttons. Shirt buttons. Pant buttons. Good old fashioned buttons. Since my childhood...everywhere I looked the only thing I could see was buttons. She had more buttons than I had toys. Sometimes she would even make sock puppets for me using buttons as eyes & nose. She hoped it would make me like buttons. But it didn't. I hated all these buttons. But realising how much hard work she put in to raise me as a single parent...I tried to put up with her OCD. But not anymore. I am a grown man now. I have a family to take care of. And especially since she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's...it has become unbearable. It broke my heart to put her into an institute for the elderly...but what other choice did I have? Now that she has settled there and the doctor's confirmed she is slowly recovering...I have decid...

Fear Thy Neighbour - Horror Short Story

Fear Thy Neighbour by Dipayan Chatterjee There's a good chance that you won't believe what I am about to tell you. Had I not experienced it personally I wouldn't have believed it either. But now that I have, it will haunt me for life. It's the type of stuff you read on the internet or watch on shows on Investigation Discovery. But you never think this can actually happen to you. Let me start from the beginning. It was already a long tiring day & the only thing I needed was a good night's sleep. I guess I should tell you that I live in small trashy apartment in a really old building. It's one of those buildings that you never want to live in. Most of the apartments in the building are abandoned and only a handful of tenants are left. Then why do I stay here? I am stuck in a sucky ass job and buried neck deep in student debt. So this is the only accomodation I could afford in the city. Still it was home. I don't know most of my neighbou...

Night 37 - Short Horror Story

Night 37  by Dipayan Chatterjee The children giggled while running across the corridor. I was on the verge of sleep when their laughter snapped me back to the land of wide awake. The bedroom door was closed but I could still see their moving shadows from the gap in the door right above the floor. My pregnant wife, who was sleeping beside me, woke up harriedly and looked at me with horror. I have seen that exact look on her face every night since the past month. "Please...I beg you...let's move out of here now. I can't live here anymore. I am losing my mind," she pleaded. The fact was she still couldn't adjust to our new house like I did. Although it pained me to see her like this, but I simply couldn't move out of this house just because it was haunted. You see we were pregnant with our first child. We were happy to finally start our family. So we bought this house with all our life's savings. But the house came with its previous deceased tenan...
