Buttons - Short Story by Dipayan Chatterjee

BUTTONS by Dipayan Chatterjee My mother is obsessed with buttons. Wooden buttons. Metal buttons. Plastic buttons. Old buttons. New buttons. Rusted buttons. Broken buttons. Shirt buttons. Pant buttons. Good old fashioned buttons. Since my childhood...everywhere I looked the only thing I could see was buttons. She had more buttons than I had toys. Sometimes she would even make sock puppets for me using buttons as eyes & nose. She hoped it would make me like buttons. But it didn't. I hated all these buttons. But realising how much hard work she put in to raise me as a single parent...I tried to put up with her OCD. But not anymore. I am a grown man now. I have a family to take care of. And especially since she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's...it has become unbearable. It broke my heart to put her into an institute for the elderly...but what other choice did I have? Now that she has settled there and the doctor's confirmed she is slowly recovering...I have decid

SHE LOVES ME - Short horror story

SHE LOVES ME                                                                 by Dipayan Chatterjee I am writing this to you now in all my senses. I may sound completely insane but you have to understand what I am going through. I am not mad. Its her...its all because of her. She loves me. I know she loves. I know she wants me. And she will do anythng to get her hands on me. But I hate her. I absolutely despise her mere presence. Let me start from the beginning... It started a few months back...right after my wife left me. I was emotionally broken. Lonliness engulfed me. But then she was there for me like a gleam of hope. Everytime I looked at her I had this feeling of warmth. It felt as if I wasn't completely alone. Her enchanting beauty fascinated me. Her endearing smile gave me a blood rush every time I looked at her. For months, I ran home from work filled with joy and love in my heart...just to spend tim

Fear Thy Neighbour - Horror Short Story

Fear Thy Neighbour by Dipayan Chatterjee There's a good chance that you won't believe what I am about to tell you. Had I not experienced it personally I wouldn't have believed it either. But now that I have, it will haunt me for life. It's the type of stuff you read on the internet or watch on shows on Investigation Discovery. But you never think this can actually happen to you. Let me start from the beginning. It was already a long tiring day & the only thing I needed was a good night's sleep. I guess I should tell you that I live in small trashy apartment in a really old building. It's one of those buildings that you never want to live in. Most of the apartments in the building are abandoned and only a handful of tenants are left. Then why do I stay here? I am stuck in a sucky ass job and buried neck deep in student debt. So this is the only accomodation I could afford in the city. Still it was home. I don't know most of my neighbou

Night 37 - Short Horror Story

Night 37  by Dipayan Chatterjee The children giggled while running across the corridor. I was on the verge of sleep when their laughter snapped me back to the land of wide awake. The bedroom door was closed but I could still see their moving shadows from the gap in the door right above the floor. My pregnant wife, who was sleeping beside me, woke up harriedly and looked at me with horror. I have seen that exact look on her face every night since the past month. "Please...I beg you...let's move out of here now. I can't live here anymore. I am losing my mind," she pleaded. The fact was she still couldn't adjust to our new house like I did. Although it pained me to see her like this, but I simply couldn't move out of this house just because it was haunted. You see we were pregnant with our first child. We were happy to finally start our family. So we bought this house with all our life's savings. But the house came with its previous deceased tenan

Charlie - A Story About True Love -- by Dipayan Chatterjee

CHARLIE   by Dipayan Chatterjee  "I love you" he said softly. She just smiled and replied "meow". He held his breath & waited for it. And then she meowed again. A smile instantly formed on his face as he held her in his arms. He knew 2 meows in a row always meant "Yes". And Charlie was always right with these things...always. Although the cat was a female, he still named her Charlie cause she had a strategically placed black spot right under her tiny nose, which made it look like a short moustache just like the famous Charlie Chaplin. He always took Charlie's advice before doing anything special. She was his only friend...his only friend who knew evrything about him...who loved him unconditionally. And she was the most special thing in his life. He loved her with all the love in his heart since the day he rescued her from the street. But he also loved Tina, her classmate and the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. There was something abo

ONE NEW MESSAGE - A Very Short Horror Story by Dipayan Chatterjee

1 NEW MESSAGE by Dipayan Chatterjee It's been almost an hour. I am still waiting for her reply. My eyes are peeled on the screen of my phone. Every tick of the digital clock heightening the beat of my pulsating heart. I try to form up some saliva inside my now dry mouth to wet my splintering throat. My hands fidgeting at the mere thought of getting a  reply from her. The usual message tone reverberating inside my ears anticipating when it will actually ring. I sit patiently on my bed....staring at my phone without battering my eyes...or at least I try. For the last 13 days, she has been texting me exactly at 2.35 am. It's always just a simple message- “Hi!!” I tried hard to fight the temptation of replying back to her...every time I would pick up the phone, type a message and then delete it. I just didn't know what she would reply in return. But tonight I just couldn't stop myself anymore. I JUST FU**ING CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE! It's eating m

The Man In The Dark - Horror Short Story by Dipayan Chatterjee

The Man In The Dark Dipayan Chatterjee As she regained consciousness, Anneliese struggled to adjust her eyes to the darkness prevalent in the dimly lit room. The vile stench was so strong that it became extremely hard to breathe. As she had been losing her senses more frequently than before, it has become increasingly difficult for her to keep her memories intact. As far as she could remember, Anneliese was trapped in this dark, damp room since the last time she was conscious. As the buzzing inside her head started to die down, Anneliese realized where she was and what was going on. Her memories were now slowly coming back...bit by bit. Just as she felt the firmness of the slithering rope around her wrist, it became clear that she was still tied to the antique wood chair.  Anneliese made a few futile attempts to get her hands free, but they were securely tied behind her back. She even tried to move the heavy chair with all her might, but she was too weak by now. It fe
